At the end of April, one of my all-time favorite local restaurants, Metropolitan Grill, announced their plans to open a new restaurant called Metropolitan Farmer. The new restaurant will focus on teaming up with local farmers to bring the highest quality farm fresh food straight to tables and will be located in the new LEED certified farmers park complex on 4139 S. Nature Center Way.
The new four-story location will include two rooms that will be available for private events as well as an old-fashioned bar on the top floor called Barley, Wheat, & Rye Social House. The bar will serve only the highest quality wine and liquor and will feature an extensive assortment of American whiskey. What I am looking forward to the most, however, is the open-air event deck with a view of the Springfield skyline.
To bring their new restaurant to Springfield, Metropolitan Grill has partnered with renown chef Wes Johnson, owner of Salt in St. Louis, MO. Johnson’s restaurant was a nominee of the James Beard Foundation’s “Best New Restaurant” in 2012.
While there is no rumored date of completion for the new eatery so far, curious foodies may follow the restaurant’s progress on their Facebook page.
Bon Appétit, Springfield!
